OUR INDIGENOUS AVIANS

(AN IDS Activity)

Syna International School has conducted a British Council IDS activity in the month of September and October on the topic "OUR INDIGENOUS AVIANS". This activity was conducted with the aim to let students know about the features of native birds and their life. In this activity students studied the birds of India, England and South Africa. 

There were many activities organized like; bird feeder making, poster making, Hindi recitation, bird watching. This activity was started with the Project on preparation of bird feeder- Learners of grade III, IV and V prepared bird feeders for their flying friends. After preparing these bird feeders students were taken to the school campus and with help of activity teachers, feeders were put on the trees. Students were very excited and this activity developed a sense of caring for birds and conserving the environment.


Hindi recitation competition- In the month of September Hindi recitation competition was organized which was an online activity. Students of grade III, IV and V participated in this competition under the guidance of Hindi educator Ms Aradhana Henry. Students who had done well was - Grade-III First position-Shivika Bajaj, Second position- Aanya Pathak, Third position- Ronak Tilwani, Grade- IV First position- Alankrita Pathak, Second position- Abeer Yadu and Vaibhavi, Third position- Mahi Shivhare, Grade-V  First position- Aryan Khan, Second position- Virat Singh, Third position- Navya Tahalramani and Aarna Jain

 



Poster making activity- This activity was also organized as an online activity. Pupils of grade III, IV and V took part in this activity under the guidance of art and craft educator Mrs. Shweta Pandey. Students have drawn the national birds of India, England and South Africa, And then they have described the beaks and claws of these birds in the form of poster making activity. Mr C S Pandey and Mrs Shweta Pandey were the judges for this activity. Top three students were selected from each grade.Grade-III First position- Shivika Bajaj, Second position –Yuvraj Maheshwari, Third position- Prince Biswas, Grade-IV First position- Alankrita Pathak, Second position- Abeer Yadu, Third- Yatharth Pandey, Grade-V First –Aarna Jain, Second- Sahanj Tiwari, Third- Jayashree Choudhary.





Bird watching activity & video presentation- Students of grade III, IV and V were taken out in our school campus for bird watching activity when their physical classes started in the month of October. Syna School has a large campus with a vast variety of trees in gardens and parks. Students visited different areas of school to see a variety of birds. Later videos on different native birds of India, England and South Africa were shown to the learners. Learners watched the videos with great zeal and enthusiasm and also noted down the special features of different birds.


 

At the end of the activity students wrote a paragraph on whatever they learnt through the various activities on birds. Students enjoyed the whole activity and they came to know the special features of different species of birds like their size, colour, feather, beaks and claws of native birds of India, England and South Africa. They came to know the similarities and differences between the native birds of the countries covered for study. They also felt the responsibilities of how to protect their flying friends and learnt different measures to care and conserve the birds.
